President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has stated that 12 million people will receive N8, 000 over a six-month period to alleviate the challenges experienced by Nigerians as a result of subsidy removal.
Tinubu stated in a letter to the House of Representatives read out by Speaker Tajudeen Abbas during plenary on Tuesday that it was support to help poor and vulnerable Nigerians manage with the cost of fulfilling basic necessities.
The letter sought approval for more funding for the National Assembly’s expanded national social safety net plan.
He said this would have a multiplier effect on about 60 million individuals.
In order to guarantee the credibility of the process, he said digital transfers would be made directly to beneficiaries accounts.
