Edson Alvarez of Ajax has skipped training this morning in order to complete a deadline-day move to Chelsea, with Arsenal also reportedly interested in signing the Mexican international.

According to De Telegraaf, the 24-year-old was not present at Ajax’s training ground today, with Alvarez eager to move to west London, with the Blues having recently made a €50 million (£43 million) offer to sign the midfielder, who Arsenal is also interested in.

Alvarez, a defensive midfielder with the ability to play as a centre-back, has been one of Ajax’s most important players over the last two seasons, but with Lisandro Martinez and Antony both departing the Dutch giants this summer, Alfred Schreuder is unwilling to lose a third key player.

According to the report, Alvarez’s dream is to play in the Premier League, but with Ajax unwilling to sell and Chelsea working on a deal to sign Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, it appears unlikely that the Blues will sign the Mexican star today, much to the delight of Arsenal, who could renew their interest in January.
