Senegal have won the Africa Cup of Nations for the first time in their history after beating Egypt on penalties on Sunday February 6.

Senegal won the shootout 4-2 after Sadio Mane, who had missed a penalty in the first half, scored the game-winning penalty. After extra time, the final score was 0-0.

The final, held at the Olembe Stadium in Yaounde, Cameroon, was tagged as a showdown between Liverpool teammates Mané and Mohamed Salah.

Egypt goalkeeper Gabaski was chosen man of the match after keeping Senegal at bay for 90 minutes and then making an outstanding stop in extra time to deny Senegal substitute Bamba Dieng.

Senegal had previously lost two finals, including the most recent African Cup in Egypt in 2019, which left Mané distraught.
