Anambra State elections: Officer reports an INEC official missing with 41 result sheets

Dr. Gabriel Othong, the Returning Officer in Idemili South Local Government Area of the state, conveyed that an INEC Supervisory Presiding Officer had displaced 41 results sheets from the ongoing Anambra Governorship election.

Othong, reported this while presenting the results at the Independent National Electoral Commission office in Awka on Sunday, November 7. He pointed out that the locations of the INEC official and the result sheets were unknown, or rather yet to be confirmed. He made known to the commission that 41 out of the 42 result sheets for 89 polling units were reportedly “carted away”.

Othong posited that there was no election at Oba Ward 1, Oba Ward 11, and Akukwu ward all in Idemili South Local Government Area, Anambra State. He added that electoral officials were not deployed to some polling units due to security challenges and gunshots being razed in those areas.

As stated by Othong:

“One of the SPOs carted away 41 result sheets out of the 42 result sheets meant for the 89 polling units in the affected wards. Over 40, 000 voters were not able to vote in the affected areas due to the development.”

After he had leveled his observations, an agent of the All Progressives Congress, Chief Ebere Obiakor, precluded Othong’s remark, by stating that elections were held in those places but the results were not collated.

While in the heat of counter-testimonies, the agent for the Peoples Democratic Party, Dr. Alex Obiogbolu, ruled out the position of the APC agent, saying that there was no election in any of the places called out by Othong

Victor Umeh of the All Progressives Grand Alliance grounded Obiogbolu and Othong’s deliberations, insisting that there was no election in those areas.

Relatedly, the results for the top three parties released for Idemili South confirmed the following counts: APC had 1,036, APGA- 2,312, and PDP-2,016 votes.

From the count, Idemili South Local Government Area had a total of 6, 622 accredited voters, whereas the Locality had 112, 652 citizens of voting age.
