Arsenal are reportedly battling three Premier League rivals for Alex Baena after identifying the Villarreal winger as a possible alternative to Mykhaylo Mudryk.

After failing to sign Shakhtar Donestk midfielder Mudryk in the summer, Arsenal have been heavily linked with a move for him.

Arsenal reportedly thought the 21-year-old was too expensive, with Fabrizio Romano claiming Shakhtar demanded £44.6 million for him.

However, it has been reported that the North London club is still interested in the Ukraine international ahead of a possible January transfer.

However, Sport reports that Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is keeping an eye on his Spanish compatriot Baena after his impressive start to the season.

Baena, 21, is Villarreal’s top scorer after returning from a loan spell at Girona, with six goals and two assists in ten games across all competitions.
