following the trucker protest in Canada, Financial Institutions have begun freezing bank accounts of some protesters according to Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland. The Minister has also said that the statistics on the number of frozen accounts are currently in her custody and they will be made public “In due course, and soon,” but will not be immediately disclosed as to avoid jeopardizing “operational actions.”
Some Canadians are now considering a move to bitcoin-friendly El Salvador in fear that the Canadian government might threaten their freedom. In fact, some are even willing to convert their Canadian dollars to bitcoins as soon as possible.
This sentiment was aroused after the Canadian parliament approved PM Justin Tradeau’s decision to call into action the rarely-used emergency powers to put an end to the pandemic-related protest which was almost becoming unrestrained in the country’s Capital Ottawa.
