Chelsea are close to signing Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly this summer following a positive meeting with his agent Ramadani.

According to Italian transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio, the Blues have agreed personal terms with the Senegalese defender on a five-year contract worth €10 million per season and hope to complete the deal for €38 million plus add-ons.

After learning that Bayern Munich had surpassed them in the race for their top target, Juventus defender Matthijs de Ligt, the west Londoners turned their attention to Koulibaly.

Following the departures of Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger, Thomas Tuchel has made defensive reinforcements a priority for the summer. Cesar Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso have also been heavily linked with a move to Barcelona.

Chelsea are set to add Koulibaly to their defensive ranks after saying they were working on Nathan Ake’s contract after agreeing personal terms.

After turning down a renewal offer from the Partenopei, the 31-year-future old’s became a subject of transfer speculation.

Barcelona and Juventus were also interested in Koulibaly, but the Blues outbid them with a better offer.

Chelsea are expected to announce the signing of Raheem Sterling soon after the Manchester City forward has passed his medical.

After completing the deal for Koulibaly, it remains to be seen whether the Blues will pursue Sevilla defender Jules Kounde.

The French centre-back has been pursued by Premier League giants as well as Barcelona, with Sevilla willing to sell him for around €60 million.
