Tobi Amusan of Nigeria successfully defended her Commonwealth Games 100m hurdles title after breezing to first place on Sunday at Birmingham’s Alexander Stadium.
Amusan finished in 12.30 seconds to set a new Games Record and secure Nigeria’s 10th gold medal of an incredible year.
A 2.4 m/s tailwind robbed Amusan of the opportunity to break the Games Record in the semi-final.
However, the World Record holder was unstoppable, clocking a time of 12.30 seconds to break the 16-year-old Games record set by Jamaica’s Brigitte Foster-Hylton in Melbourne, Australia.
Devynne Charlton of the Bahamas finished second, while Briton Cindy Sember, who celebrated her 28th birthday by winning the semis, took bronze.
Tobi Amusan told reporters after her victory that despite setting a new Games Record, she did not have a properly executed race.
Only a few weeks ago, Amusan, 25, broke the World Record with her 12.12 second semi-final win before going on to win the world title in Oregon with a wind-aided time of 12.06 seconds.
