President Buhari vows to promote food security as part of his incremental agri-development plan.

Food security is an integral part of national security. That is to say, the governmental institutions needs to ensure healthiness of all consumables. Food items, fruits and drinks needs proper scrutiny before they are let out to find a place in the commodity market. Therefore, a proper check means a look into the production and packaging processes.

Meanwhile, world countries have varying approaches to enhancing food security. Numerous agencies (majorly state-owned) are delegated to carry out these inspections. These agencies operates through complex and interrelated structures. So, this is under full supervision of the executive arm.

In Nigeria, The National Agency For Food, Drug Administration And Control (NAFDAC) is the sole agent responsible for food scan. Likewise, Custom officials who watch over land borders plays exquisite roles in this regard. To clarify, these security agents prevent the importation of contraband items. Checking food expiration is one of their contributions to food security.

77 years old President Buhari has pledged to focus on the agricultural sector. As a result, the enhancement of food security is part of his plans. According to him, revitalizing the sector will help plough back profits.

In an interactive session, President Buhari said:

” ………… Quoting The Federal Executive Council (FEC), 60% of Nigeria’s revenue went with the COVID-19 pandemic. In counter, there is a need to fight our way up. Similarly, The National Bureau of Statistics fortells another economic recession. The administration is pledging to focus on agriculture. We’re going to ensure food security, foreign exchange of farm outputs and many other schemes on the list……………”
