Football journalist Dean Jones has claimed that Arsenal new-boy Oleksandr Zinchenko is desperate to play in central midfield.

The Gunners signed the Ukrainian from Manchester City for £32 million in July (Sky Sports). He has been ‘phenomenal‘, with some even claiming that he’s been better than Gabriel Jesus, who also moved to the Emirates from the home of the Premier League champions.

Oleksandr Zinchenko is ‘desperate’ to play in midfield for Arsenal

Since his arrival, Zinchenko has made five appearances for Arsenal – every one of those starts has come at left-back.

The 25-year-old has been given the freedom to tuck into the midfield by Mikel Arteta, but if Jones is to be believed, he wants to be an out-and-out midfielder who starts every game in the middle of the park – just as he does for his country at international level.

The journalist told GiveMeSport: “I think that they have no problems with using Zinchenko in that role.

“He’s desperate for the opportunity to play there.

“We know that in his latter days at Man City, he was pushing for a midfield role permanently and just wasn’t going to get it.”
