Nasarawa State Government is constructing an Ultra Modern Market in Keffi, with fire prevention mechanism including access roads for unhindered passage during emergency response in the eventuality of market fire disasters that has become prevalent in the country.

Governor Abdullahi Sule, made this known while receiving the Controller General, Federal Fire Service, Dr Liman Ibrahim represented by Deputy Controller General, DCG Quintus Azogu in Lafia, Nasarawa State capital.

Governor Sule who received a new fire fighting vehicle donated to the State by the Federal Fire Service said the deployment of firemen and equipment was timely and would help to curtail fire and other disasters.

In an address of welcome, Permanent Secretary, Cabinet Affairs and Special Services, Mr. Mu’azu Adamu Gosho noted that from January to date, Nasarawa State had witnessed about 60 fire incidences which claimed at least four lives and property worth billions of Naira.

Deputy Controller General, DCG Quintus Azogu, said the service will ensure a minimised impact of uncontrolled fire through professional fire management engagement, adding that the service was concerned about the situation, and has deployed officers to the State Federal Fire Service Command to increase its  response capacity.

The DCG emphasised on the need for a robust collaboration between the service and States as “fighting fire is everybody’s responsibility.”

Gov Sule appreciated the Federal Fire Service and expressed his willingness to cooperate with it to deliver on its mandate.
