Damian Okoligwe, a 400-level Petrochemical Engineering student at the University of Port Harcourt(UNIPORT) in Rivers State, has been remanded in prison for the murder of his girlfriend, Justina Nkang.

On Monday, November 13, the prosecution requested remand proceedings, asking the court to commit him to the custody of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) and to forward the case file to the Department of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for future advice.

The defence counsel did not object to this application.

In ruling on the motion, Judge Obiageri Anugbum noted that the accusations were grave and remanded Damian in prison custody, as well as ordered that the case file be transferred to the DPP’s office. She also postponed the lawsuit to December 15, 2023, to seek legal counsel.
