Arsenal won the 2023 FA Community Shield after defeating Manchester City in a penalty shootout on Sunday, August 6, at Wembley Stadium.

The match serves as a traditional season opener and is usually played between the Premier League and FA Cup winners from the previous season.

Cole Palmer came off the bench in the 78th minute to score a fantastic opener for the Treble champions in a tight match between last season’s top two in the Premier League.

However, Leandro Trossard’s late deflected attempt in the last seconds sent it to penalties.

During the shootout, City’s Kevin De Bruyne hit the crossbar and Rodri’s effort was saved by Ramsdale, giving Arsenal’s Fabio Vieira the opportunity to win it. The Portuguese playmaker curled it into the upper right corner. Arsenal had earlier scored penalties through Martin Odegaard, Trossard, and Bukayo Saka.

Arsenal won its 17th community shield title with the victory. Mikel Arteta has now won three trophies since joining the club in 2019.
