The Lagos State Police Command has issued a public apology to #EndSARS campaigner Obianuju Catherine Udeh, also known as DJ Switch, following viral allegations of her alleged arrest for attacking a police officer in Lagos.

Earlier on Thursday, a part of the media was inundated with the news of DJ Switch’s arrest and arraignment in court for assaulting a police officer.

However, DJ Switch promptly debunk the news report on her X profile (previously Twitter), claiming that she awoke to a flood of phone calls and messages on Thursday morning informing her of her alleged arrest and labelling the item as fake news.

She, therefore, asked the publishers of the news items to remove them immediately or face a possible lawsuit for their publication, which she described as ‘defamation’ of her character.

However, the Lagos State Police Command, which initially disseminated the information, has corrected the confusion while apologising to several media outlets that were similarly misled.

Taking to his personal X handle (formerly Twitter) shortly thereafter, spokesperson of the Lagos State Police Command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, said DJ Commissioner Wysei was the suspect arrested and not DJ Switch.

The PPRO wrote: “There is a mixup from our end. Arrested person is DJ Commissioner Wysei not DJ Switch.

“Apologies for all inconveniences to a few media outfits like Lindaikeji, BBC and TVC that I gave confirmation this morning.

“Apologies to DJ Switch too.”
