Police took rapper Killer Mike away in handcuffs from Sunday night’s Grammy Awards after he won three of the music industry’s top rap awards, according to witnesses.

Los Angeles police made no remark on the incident, and two different press officers on duty indicated they had no information.

A video released on social media showed police bringing Killer Mike down the concourse of the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, his hands tied behind his back.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Killer Mike was held for an unidentified misdemeanour accusation unrelated to the Grammys.

Killer Mike and colleagues won the Grammys earlier in the day for best rap song and best rap performance for “Scientists & Engineers,” as well as best rap album for “Michael.”

Killer Mike, born Michael Render, is also recognised for his social activism on topics such as racism and police brutality.

His agent and publicist did not immediately reply to demands for comment.
