Temilade Openiyi, also known as Tems, received her first Grammy Award at the 2023 Grammy Awards gala ceremony.

The “Free Minds” hit crooner’s fame skyrocketed after her hit collaboration song with Wizkid, titled Essence, gave her the opportunity to collaborate on hit songs with the best in America’s music industry.

Tems received her first Grammy on Sunday night at the cryto.com Arena in Los Angeles for her featured song in Future’s 2022 hit song, “Wait for U,” which also featured Drake. Tems is the first Nigerian and African to win a Grammy for “Best Melodic Rap Performance” as a result of this award.

Meanwhile, Burna Boy, who was nominated for “Best Global Music Album” and “Best Global Music Performance,” did not win any of the awards.
